Cancún, Quintana Roo — Quintana Roo hosted the International Symposium on Religious Freedom in Mexico and Central America 2026, a three-day event that brought together more than 120 experts, diplomats and religious leaders from several countries.
The symposium, held in Cancún, focused on religious mobility, human rights and strategies to foster more inclusive societies. It was organized by international institutions and universities, including Brigham Young University and Anáhuac Cancún University, along with interfaith organizations from Latin America.
State Government Secretary Cristina Torres Gómez said respect, inclusion and freedom of worship are pillars for strengthening the social fabric and advancing peacebuilding in the state. She highlighted that the administration of Governor Mara Lezama promotes dialogue and cooperation as key tools to prevent conflicts and consolidate peaceful coexistence.
State officials said Quintana Roo is consolidating itself as a national and international benchmark in religious freedom, tolerance and human rights-based governance.
