Cancún, Quintana Roo — Approximately 140 workers at the Golden Parnassus Cancún hotel initiated an indefinite work stoppage this afternoon due to the company's failure to comply with various legal benefits and union agreements. The information was confirmed by the general secretary of the CROC in Quintana Roo, Martín de la Cruz Gómez.
The union leader reported that around 1:00 p.m. on Monday, and in the presence of labor authorities, the workers placed red and black flags to mark the beginning of the stoppage. He detailed that the movement is a response to the company's failure to fulfill benefits such as savings fund payments, a portion of tips, withheld salaries, grocery vouchers, and other legal obligations outlined in their list of demands, which led them to take action.
De la Cruz Gómez recalled that one month ago, a meeting was held with company representatives, during which a strike was averted under the commitment to provide a solution within a maximum period of two weeks. However, four weeks passed without any progress or fulfillment of the agreements.
The CROC leader in Quintana Roo specified that the company opted to temporarily close the hotel's operations, citing its inability to meet its obligations to its employees, many of whom have more than 20 years of seniority.
"We are here under the instructions of our national leader, Isaías González Cuevas, to support the workers and prevent an injustice from being committed," he stated.
He emphasized that the mobilization has legal validity, as the labor authority was present at the start of the work stoppage, taking official notice of the events in accordance with the law.
Martín de la Cruz called on the company to comply with the agreements made with the workers so that its operations would not be affected, even though the hotel has been temporarily closed to guests and the industry is currently in a low season.
