Cozumel, Mexico — Organizers of the Ironman 70.3 Cozumel 2025 have reported the death of a participant, which occurred during the swimming segment of the competition.
The organizers delivered the terrible news officially. According to initial information, the athlete was identified as Eusebio T.F., a 58-year-old from Mexico City.
Based on accounts from the event team, the contestant began to experience discomfort during the aquatic stage. These discomforts subsequently contributed to his drowning, which is why he was assisted immediately by rescue personnel. They transported him emergently to a private clinic in Cozumel.
According to the forensic reports, they would confirm the death of Eusebio hours after his admission to the clinic. The athlete's loved ones were informed, and they began the procedures for the release of the body and its subsequent transfer.
Finally, the official media channels of Ironman Mexico published a brief post related to the events in Cozumel, sending their condolences to the family of the Mexican athlete for their loss.
