Puerto Aventuras, Quintana Roo — A sailing vessel that prompted concern Sunday morning after being spotted drifting off the coast near Bahía Kantenah was eventually brought under control by its captain and successfully maneuvered into the Puerto Aventuras marina under sail.
The situation was first reported to the Harbor Master’s office at around 11:30 a.m., after the vessel was observed in the area known as Punta Roca, off the condominiums near the Hard Rock Hotel. Early reports described the boat as drifting offshore, raising concern among members of the local maritime community.
Weather conditions in the region were unsettled at the time, with rain, storms, and rougher seas affecting parts of the coast. Because of those conditions, members of the maritime community issued an alert and asked nearby vessels to remain aware of the situation and be prepared to provide assistance if needed.
At first, little was known about the vessel, including its origin, flag, number of people on board, or whether it had suffered mechanical or navigational problems. Maritime authorities had not immediately announced a formal rescue operation or released details on the condition of the boat.
The situation later improved when the captain was able to regain control of the sailing vessel and bring it into the Puerto Aventuras marina without outside rescue.
