Two Women Arrested on Drug Dealing Charges in Playa del Carmen

Two women with black bars over their eyes stand in front of a height chart banner between two officers wearing Policia de Investigacion vests, with plastic-wrapped items on a table in front.

Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo — State investigators arrested two women caught in the act on suspicion of drug dealing in the Colosio neighborhood of this municipality, the Quintana Roo State Prosecutor’s Office reported.

Officers from the agency’s Investigation Police identified the detainees as María Agustina “N” and Elena de los Ángeles “N,” who officials said were carrying illegal substances when they were intercepted during investigative work.

Marijuana and methamphetamine seized

According to the State Prosecutor’s Office, investigators ordered the women to stop and carried out a preventive search, during which they found bags holding green herb resembling marijuana and a crystalline substance similar to methamphetamine.

After the suspected drugs were discovered, the officers arrested the two women and seized the evidence, handing it over to prosecutors.

The operation took place in the Colosio neighborhood, an area of Playa del Carmen where authorities are conducting investigations aimed at curbing the distribution and sale of drugs.

Suspected link to sales in Playa del Carmen and Puerto Morelos

Preliminary inquiries indicate the two women may be connected to drug sales carried out independently in Playa del Carmen and Puerto Morelos, officials said. That line of investigation must still be confirmed by the Public Prosecutor’s Office through the corresponding proceedings.

Once legal procedures were completed, the women and the seized substances were placed at the disposal of the Public Prosecutor’s Office, which will determine their legal status within the constitutional timeframe.

The State Prosecutor’s Office said it will continue investigating to clarify the facts and establish whether there is sufficient evidence to pursue legal action against both detainees.

Under the principle of presumption of innocence, the women must be considered innocent until their responsibility is established by a judicial ruling.
