Quintana Roo Prosecutors Confirm Traffic Officer Killed His Ex-Partner and Teenage Daughter Before Taking His Own Life

Chetumal, Quintana Roo — A traffic police officer shot his former partner and their teenage daughter inside their home in Chetumal before turning the gun on himself, Quintana Roo state prosecutors have concluded, classifying the deaths of the two women as a double feminicide.

The State Prosecutor’s Office (FGE) said forensic examinations, autopsy reports and an analysis of video recordings allowed investigators to reconstruct the sequence of events at a house on Sicilia Street in the Italia neighborhood on October 21, when the officer, his ex-partner and the couple’s teenage daughter were found dead.

How the attack unfolded

According to the prosecutor’s account, the officer arrived at the home where the two victims lived. The teenager let him in, and he followed her into the back patio, where he shot her. He then opened fire on his former partner and finally shot himself.

Forensic studies found that the adult woman suffered eight gunshot wounds, while the teenager died of severe head trauma.

Investigators also recovered an additional magazine compatible with the weapon seized at the scene. A sodium rhodizonate test on the officer’s right hand came back positive, a result consistent with having fired a gun.

No third person involved, officials say

Prosecutors said exterior surveillance footage showed no one else entering or leaving the property during the period in question, ruling out the participation of a third person other than the victims and the officer. An analysis of audio recordings from the area identified ten gunshots.

The prosecutor’s office said it will continue assembling the evidence in the case under a gender perspective, the standard applied to investigations of violence against women in Mexico.
