Tulum Treasurer Detained at Cancun Airport for Gun Possession
Cancun, Quintana Roo — The treasurer of Tulum municipality, Vicente Francisco Aldape Moncada, was arrested Thursday morning at Cancun International Airport after National Guard officers discovered a firearm in his luggage during security screening at Terminal 2.
According to the National Detention Registry, Aldape was detained around 6:10 a.m. and later transferred to the Federal Prosecutor’s Office (FGR), where he was placed at the disposal of a federal prosecutor for further proceedings.
Sources close to the case said the intervention followed standard airport security protocols and was not the result of an arrest warrant or any prior judicial order against the municipal official.
The seizure is believed to involve a .22 caliber firearm. Federal authorities will determine whether there were any irregularities in the possession or transport of the weapon.
The FGR has not released additional official information. Aldape remains in federal custody while his legal status is determined in the coming hours.
