Tulum, Quintana Roo — The Tulum City Council has announced a sports and recreation day open to all residents, organized by the Gender Equality Directorate in coordination with local LGBTQ+ groups. The event aims to create safe spaces for coexistence, raise social awareness, and promote a culture of respect regardless of gender identity, orientation, or expression.
Officials highlighted that sports and recreation are key tools for fostering community integration, combating stigma, and building environments where empathy, inclusion, and healthy coexistence prevail.
Wig Race and Mass Zumba Class to Kick Off Activities
The agenda begins June 18 with an afternoon of physical activity and family fun at the Tulum Municipal Palace Esplanade. Activities include a mass zumba class and the traditional Wig Race, a recreational event designed to encourage citizen participation in a respectful and fun atmosphere.
The events run from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Participants in the race pay a 50-peso registration fee, which includes a wig. Organizers announced prizes for the top finishers.
The Gender Equality Directorate noted that such events help highlight the importance of social inclusion and strengthen community involvement in human rights issues.
Volleyball and Basketball Tournaments to Bring Together Local Teams
The program continues June 19 with a sports day focused on friendly competition and teamwork. The Tulum Sports Unit will host volleyball and basketball quadrangular tournaments, with elimination matches from 5:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.
Certificates and prizes will be awarded to first- and second-place teams in each discipline. Organizers said the goal is to encourage interaction among different sectors of the population through sports that promote values such as respect, cooperation, and inclusion.

The Tulum City Council called on the public to participate in this event, which seeks to build a more equal and discrimination-free society. Those interested in registering for activities, signing up sports teams, or requesting more information can call 984 178 95 58 or 984 183 53 85.
