Tulum, Quintana Roo — Small businesses in Tulum are counting on Halloween and Day of the Dead celebrations to lift their sales after a year of weak economic activity, according to Hans Velázquez, manager of the Superbella novelty store.
Velázquez said the shop stocks goods for both festivities, ranging from Halloween accessories to tablecloths and flowers for Day of the Dead altars, depending on what customers want.
He estimated that sales at the store could climb by as much as 70 percent compared with previous periods, describing the holiday season as an opportunity to improve revenue.
October, November and December typically account for a large share of the year’s commercial activity, Velázquez said, and merchants are hopeful the coming celebrations will help small businesses recover their momentum.
