Playa del Carmen Launches ‘Fan Route 2026’ to Boost Local Economy During World Cup

Officials present the Fan Route 2026 initiative in Playa del Carmen

Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo — Playa del Carmen’s tourism department has launched the “Fan Route 2026,” an initiative designed to attract soccer fans during the World Cup by offering special promotions and viewing parties at local restaurants, bars, hotels, and beach clubs.

The program aims to position the Riviera Maya destination as a safe and dynamic place for national and international visitors to experience the tournament. More than 15 participating venues, primarily along Fifth Avenue and downtown, will offer match screenings, special activations, and a wide range of dining options.

Fabiana Briseño, Playa del Carmen’s tourism secretary, said the strategy is part of a broader effort to diversify the city’s tourism offerings beyond its traditional sun-and-beach appeal.

“We want those who visit Playa del Carmen during this season to find much more than a beach destination. We want them to experience the excitement of soccer, enjoy our cuisine, explore our establishments, and discover the hospitality that characterizes our city,” Briseño said.

The Fan Route is expected to boost local economic activity by driving consumer spending and fostering collaboration between the tourism and business sectors.
