Cozumel, Quintana Roo — Seventeen girls and boys undergoing cancer treatment are spending a week on the island of Cozumel as part of an initiative organized by the Mi Último Deseo A.C. foundation, together with the municipal government and local sponsors.

The children are on the island from Oct. 19 to 26, taking part in a program designed to give them a break from their medical care and a few days of fun and encouragement.

Tomás Fernando López Jiménez, founder of the association, highlighted the support the group has received on the island to make the experiences possible for minors going through a difficult stage of their illness.

José Antonio Matos Ceballos, who coordinates the activities, said the program includes swimming with dolphins, encounters with manta rays, a visit to Playa El Cielo and recreational days at beach clubs.

Matos Ceballos said the aim is to give the children moments of enjoyment and lift their spirits during their stay, offering them a space for recreation in the middle of their treatment processes.
