Tropical Wave 4 Approaches Yucatan Peninsula as Quintana Roo Braces for Heat and Rain

Weather map showing Tropical Wave 4 approaching the Yucatan Peninsula with cloud cover and rain areas

Cancún, Quintana Roo — June began with hot and humid conditions across Quintana Roo on Monday, as officials tracked the approach of Tropical Wave 4 over the Caribbean Sea.

The state civil protection agency, Coeproc, reported that a high-level cyclonic circulation over the southwestern Gulf of Mexico, combined with a low-pressure channel over the Yucatan Peninsula and moisture from the Caribbean, will bring partly cloudy to cloudy skies and scattered showers with isolated heavy downpours (25 to 50 mm) accompanied by electrical activity.

Winds are expected to gust between 30 and 50 km/h, especially along coastal areas, with waves of 1.0 to 2.0 meters.

Tropical Wave 4 is moving westward over Central America at 18 to 27 km/h and is expected to approach the Yucatan Peninsula in the coming days, according to Coeproc. No active tropical cyclones are currently in the Caribbean.

Road and coastal safety: Drive carefully due to possible fog banks in the morning and evening. Check port captaincy advisories before any maritime activities, and exercise caution in navigation and water sports due to increased wave heights and wind gusts.
