Tren Maya Launches Daily Route Between Chetumal and Bacalar

A Tren Maya train at the Chetumal station, ready for the new daily route to Bacalar

Chetumal, Quintana Roo — The Tren Maya will expand its operations in southern Quintana Roo starting June 1 with a new daily service connecting the state capital, Chetumal, with the tourist town of Bacalar.

The first train will depart Chetumal station for the Pueblo Mágico at 6:00 a.m., with the return trip from Bacalar to Chetumal scheduled for 2:30 p.m. The schedule is designed to meet the daily commuting needs of students, workers, and tourists.

For students traveling between the two cities, the new service offers a reliable transportation option to reach their schools. The route is also expected to boost tourism by allowing visitors staying in Bacalar to return to Chetumal in the afternoon, connecting with flights from the capital’s airport.

Residents traveling for work, administrative errands, or business will also benefit. The train aims to provide a competitive alternative to road travel by reducing delays and improving travel times.

Authorities have asked hotels, tour operators, travel agencies, and restaurants to help promote the new schedule so that both residents and tourists can plan their activities around the rail connection.
