Tim Hortons Prepares to Open in Cancún

Tim Hortons coming to Cancun

Cancun, Quintana Roo — Tim Hortons appears to be getting ready to open its first Cancún location, marking the Canadian coffee chain’s next step into the Mexican Caribbean.

Tim Hortons is a Canadian coffee and quick-service restaurant chain best known for coffee, donuts, Timbits, breakfast sandwiches, and casual café-style service. Founded in 1964 by Canadian hockey player Tim Horton and business partner Ron Joyce, the brand has grown into one of Canada’s most recognizable names and has expanded internationally, including a fast-growing presence in Mexico.

While the company has not yet published a full public announcement with an opening date or exact address, multiple local job posts circulating on social media say “Tim Hortons llega a Cancún” and promote hiring for a new opening. The recruitment notices invite applicants to a job fair for the upcoming location, suggesting the launch is already in the staffing phase.

The arrival would follow the brand’s recent expansion into neighboring Yucatán. Tim Hortons opened its first Mérida location in Xcanatún, along the Mérida-Progreso corridor, earlier this year. Local coverage reported that the Mérida opening event took place in late March, with the restaurant operating as a coffee and bakery-style meeting spot.

Since then, the brand has continued growing in Mérida. Tim Hortons Mexico’s official location page lists a Cholul branch, and local social media pages reported the opening of a second Mérida location in Cholul. The company has also promoted a Francisco de Montejo location in Mérida through its official social media channels.

Tim Hortons has been expanding steadily in Mexico since entering the country in 2017. The company opened its 200th Mexican restaurant in Monterrey’s Fundidora Park in 2026, according to Mexico News Daily, underscoring how quickly the brand has grown beyond its original northern Mexico base.

For Cancún, the move brings another international coffee and quick-service brand into an already competitive market. For Canadian residents, snowbirds and visitors in the region, the name will be familiar. Tim Hortons is more than a coffee stop. It is a familiar part of daily life, road trips, hockey mornings, and hometown routine. For locals, the new opening is expected to bring both another café option and new service-sector jobs.
