Riviera Maya, QR — Emergency personnel were called to the scene of a single-vehicle rollover on Wednesday night. A private vehicle carrying a woman and two children overturned on the federal highway south of Playa del Carmen.
Municipal firefighters responded to reports made by motorists at 9:00 p.m. regarding the highway accident in the Riviera Maya. Police arrived on the scene and found the occupants trapped inside. Playa del Carmen firefighters were brought in to open the car doors using the jaws of life.
The car was found overturned on its side approximately 20 kilometers south of Playa del Carmen, near the entrance to the Paamul beach area. Once freed, all three individuals were found to have only minor injuries, but they were transported to the Playa del Carmen hospital for a medical evaluation.
Traffic on the highway was reduced on Wednesday night with the arrival of emergency services and, eventually, a tow truck. The Highway Guard National Unit took control of the scene and remained behind to tow the demolished car to the impound lot.
It was reported that the female driver overturned the car after two tires left the roadway and entered the soft gravel of the shoulder.
