One Dead and a Woman Arrested After Shootout With Tulum Police in Francisco Uh May

Tulum, Quintana Roo — A police pursuit of a vehicle linked to a home robbery ended in a shootout in Francisco Uh May, a village in the municipality of Tulum, leaving one suspected assailant dead and a woman under arrest, the Tulum Public Security and Citizen Protection Department said.

Officers seized two firearms at the scene.

According to the official account, the operation began with a citizen report of a break-in at a private home, where thieves took valuables, cash and a car. Officers then spotted a vehicle matching the description given in the report.

How the chase began

Police tried to carry out a preventive inspection of the vehicle, which matched the one reported stolen in the robbery. The occupants ignored the officers’ instructions and fled, prompting the pursuit, the department said.

During the chase, the people in the vehicle opened fire on the officers, endangering both the police and bystanders, according to the official report.

What happened when police caught up

When officers intercepted the vehicle, two people got out, allegedly armed, and fired at the police again. The officers returned fire under established procedures and the legitimate use of force, the department said.

The reported toll was one assailant “neutralized,” one woman taken into custody and two firearms seized.

The woman detained and the investigation

The detainee was identified as Noemí “N,” 31. After the confrontation, officers cordoned off the area to preserve evidence while authorities processed the scene and collected material.

The department said investigations are ongoing to establish exactly what happened, identify everyone involved and determine the corresponding legal responsibilities. The identity of the dead man has not been released.
