Body of 80-Year-Old Foreigner Found Inside His Isla Mujeres Home

Isla Mujeres, Quintana Roo — Strong putrid odors coming from a house in the La Gloria neighborhood led to the discovery of an approximately 80-year-old foreign man who was found dead inside his home, officials said.

The body was found during the night of Tuesday, Nov. 3. According to initial reports, the man lived alone and is believed to have been dead for several days, with the advanced state of decomposition producing the smell that drew attention to the property.

The man’s identity and nationality have not been released. Preliminary assessments suggest he may have died of natural causes, but authorities will have to officially determine the circumstances of his death.

Officials have not said how long he had been dead or whether he suffered from any illness. Investigators are expected to clarify the cause of death and establish an approximate timeline for how long the body remained inside the house.

The case drew attention locally because the man apparently went unnoticed for days before his death was discovered.
