Three suspects arrested by police in Playa del Carmen with firearms and suspected drugs

Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo — Three people were arrested on drug and weapons charges after police caught them allegedly dealing narcotics in the Bosque Real neighborhood, authorities said.

The suspects, identified as Venancio “N,” David Alejandro “N,” and Mónica Monserrath “N,” were intercepted by state investigative police officers on Monte Daro Street between Monte Atlas and Montes Azules Avenue, according to a statement from the Quintana Roo State Prosecutor’s Office (FGE).

Officers on patrol observed suspicious behavior and conducted a search, seizing several doses of green and dry plant material resembling marijuana, along with two firearms: a black pistol with a magazine loaded with 15 9mm rounds and a silver handgun with a metal magazine containing five live rounds.

Police also confiscated an OPPO cellphone and two motorcycles allegedly used by the suspects — a red Benelli and a black Pulsar.

The three detainees were turned over to the Public Prosecutor’s Office along with the weapons, suspected drugs, and other evidence to begin the corresponding investigations. Authorities said the suspects’ legal status will be determined within the constitutional term as the investigation continues into their possible involvement in drug sales and distribution in the tourist destination.
