Theater Play ‘Feroz’ Brings Anti-Bullying Message to Children in Playa del Carmen and Puerto Aventuras

Children watching the theater play Feroz about bullying in Playa del Carmen

Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo — The Municipal Institute of Culture and Arts of Playa del Carmen (IMCAP) celebrated children attending art workshops and students from the Luis Donaldo Colosio Murrienta elementary school in Puerto Aventuras with a performance of the play “Feroz” by the Belacqua company.

Ernesto Santiago Martínez Cuéllar, speaking on behalf of Mayor Estefanía Mercado, thanked the children for attending the IMCAP-organized shows and invited them to enroll in dance, music, theater, and visual arts courses taught by specialized instructors.

In a nearly full City Theater, the performers depicted a bullying scenario in which the character “Little Red Riding Hood” is harassed by the “Big Bad Wolf.” The girl in red experiences sadness and confusion, unsure how to handle the situation. Eventually, she tells her mother, who believes her and helps resolve the problem. After the play, the actresses led an interactive session with the children, providing them with tools to defend against bullying.

“You have to distance yourself from people who make you feel uncomfortable,” was the message.

Later, the Subdirectorate of Artistic Promotion and Education hosted a party for its students, complete with piñatas, music, and fun.
