Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo — Police arrested a taxi driver Thursday afternoon after he allegedly tried to sell a stolen tablet that belonged to passengers whose luggage he had taken.
The driver, who operates taxi number 2887 affiliated with the Lázaro Cárdenas del Río union, arrived at a cell phone store in the Ejidal neighborhood to sell the device. When store staff turned on the tablet, it activated a GPS signal that the owners used to track him down.
The family confronted the driver at the store, accusing him of stealing their luggage and demanding that police be called.
Municipal police officers arrived at the scene, arrested the driver, and seized his taxi, which was towed away.
The victims did not disclose the circumstances under which the driver took their luggage.
