Tulum, Quintana Roo — As members of the Unified Union of Workers in the Service of the Tulum City Council (SUTSAT) continue demonstrations over their labor demands and prepare for another meeting with authorities this Monday, the municipal government has guaranteed the timely payment of salaries, fortnightly payments and year-end bonuses, according to Municipal Treasurer Raziel Ek Cruz.

The official said the City Council prioritizes meeting its labor obligations and that municipal workers’ income is guaranteed for the remainder of the year, regardless of the economic situation at the state and national levels.

Ek Cruz explained that, in coordination with the Mayor’s Office and the Human Resources Department, the Municipal Treasury is working to ensure that payments are made on time and properly, as has occurred during previous pay periods.

“Every two weeks, through the Chief Administrative Officer, the Director of Human Resources and the Treasury, we ensure that the salaries of all workers are paid,” he said.

The treasurer stressed that paying salaries is one of the main responsibilities of the municipal administration and affirmed that the commitment to timely payments will be maintained through the end of the year.

He said that despite the context the state and the country are going through, the Tulum City Council has met its salary commitments every two weeks, a practice he assured will continue without changes.

“Workers’ salaries will never be at risk; it will be one of the obligations we have to fulfill,” he said.

The statements come as SUTSAT members continue their protests related to their labor demands. In this context, the municipal government is seeking to reassure its workforce about the fulfillment of their financial benefits, particularly with the end of the fiscal year and year-end payments approaching.

“Payroll payments and corresponding benefits, including the Christmas bonus, are among the administration’s priorities, with a commitment to meet the established deadlines,” the local official said.
