Suspect Arrested After Shooting in Tulum

Tulum, Quintana Roo — A man identified as Gerardo Esteban “N,” alias “El Gato,” was arrested by federal, state, and municipal authorities during an operation following a report of a person injured by gunfire in Tulum.

According to official reports, the operation began after an emergency call reported a gunshot victim. Security forces launched a search for the suspected attackers.

In a coordinated effort involving officers from the Tulum Public Security and Citizen Protection Department, the State Prosecutor’s Office, and the Mexican Army, Gerardo Esteban “N,” 37, a native of Villahermosa, Tabasco, was taken into custody on suspicion of drug-related crimes and illegal possession of a firearm.

During the arrest, authorities said the suspect was found in possession of a short firearm with a loaded magazine containing nine rounds, as well as eight packages containing a green herb resembling marijuana.

The suspect and the seized items were handed over to the State Prosecutor’s Office, which will continue the investigation and determine whether the confiscated weapon is linked to the violent incident that prompted the operation. The suspect’s legal status will be determined as the investigation progresses.
