CANCÚN — The president of the Mexican Association of Real Estate Professionals (AMPI), Karen Ramos Díaz, announced the formation of a specialized real estate committee aimed at providing legal certainty and security for investments, with a primary goal of shielding the collective from irregular transactions.
Ramos Díaz stated that this group of real estate development experts is tasked with reviewing projects currently on the market. To date, they have inspected 86 projects in Cancún. This process will generate a database designed to guarantee the legality of all transactions.
She commented that due to the success of the Mexican Caribbean in the real estate sector, irregularities are common, underscoring the importance of consulting certified professionals and being analytical when investing. Ultimately, the committee seeks to protect both clients and developers.
"This committee is tasked with conducting visits to developments being offered in the city to verify that they are suitable for commercialization and, above all, that they comply with the norms and regulations established by the governments," she said.
She indicated that these visits are conducted weekly. To provide certainty that a development is reliable, a mapping process is carried out to verify the project's information, which sometimes necessitates multiple site visits and cross-referencing with official data.
She noted that these reviews are carried out in coordination with the Ministry of Sustainable Territorial Urban Development (Sedetus), which maintains a registry of projects. The committee cross-checks the documentation and includes it in a database.
