Sheinbaum Promises Health Screenings for 2026 World Cup Amid Ebola Outbreak

Mexico City — President Claudia Sheinbaum said Tuesday that Mexico will implement health screenings at entry points during the 2026 FIFA World Cup to prevent the spread of Ebola amid an outbreak in Africa.

Speaking at her daily morning press conference, Sheinbaum said the measures will be coordinated with travelers’ countries of origin. “If there is a problem with a contagious disease, we must take health screening measures to ensure they do not spread it in Mexico,” she said.

She described the screenings as “epidemiological measures” that must be followed, adding that Health Secretary David Kershenobich will provide details soon on the protocols being implemented for the World Cup.

“It doesn’t mean they can’t travel, but it must be done with all the necessary measures,” Sheinbaum said.
