Tulum, Quintana Roo — A botched armed attack in downtown Tulum ended without gunfire after the assailant dropped his weapon’s magazine on the street and fled.
The incident occurred on Sol Oriente street between Orion and Beta Sur, near the LuLu tortilla shop. According to witnesses, a man arrived on a motorcycle and approached the business carrying a firearm, apparently intending to shoot someone inside. As he handled the weapon, the magazine detached and fell onto the road, prompting him to abandon the attack and ride off.
No shots were fired and no injuries were reported, authorities said. Police officers cordoned off the area to preserve the magazine as evidence. Investigators began gathering witness statements and reviewing nearby security cameras for footage of the suspect’s arrival and escape.
The recovered magazine will help determine the type of weapon involved. No arrests have been made, and the motive remains under investigation. Forensic units were expected to process the scene and collect evidence for the ongoing inquiry.
