Cancún, Quintana Roo — Mexico’s National Weather Service (SMN) has raised the probability of cyclonic development to 70% for a low-pressure system in the Atlantic Ocean, one of two systems it is monitoring.
The agency’s Tuesday report placed the system, located about 6,970 kilometers (4,330 miles) east of Quintana Roo’s coast, off the western coast of Africa. It now carries a 70% chance of tropical cyclone formation within 48 hours and over the next seven days, and is moving west-northwest.
The second low-pressure area, northeast of the Bahamas, was about 3,110 kilometers east-northeast of Quintana Roo. It retains a 40% probability of cyclone development in both time frames and is moving north-northeast at 24 to 32 km/h (15 to 20 mph).
The state’s Civil Protection Coordination (Coeproc) shared the SMN report to keep the public aware of both systems’ evolution.
“Stay informed only through the official channels of Conagua and Coeproc,” Governor Mara Lezama Espinosa said. “Remember to always apply the Triple A: Attentive, Alert, and Safe.”
For Tuesday, the SMN forecast hot weather for Quintana Roo, with cloudy skies and isolated showers expected in parts of the state.
