Cancún, Quintana Roo — Governor Mara Lezama Espinosa announced that 2025 is consolidating as the best year in history for the cruise tourism segment in the state, with record-breaking figures in both ship arrivals and cruise passengers. This achievement results from coordinated work between the state government, private initiative, and international organizations, highlighting close collaboration with the Florida-Caribbean Cruise Association (FCCA).
According to projections for this year, Quintana Roo will reach over 7.4 million cruise passengers, representing a growth of 3.6 percent compared to 2024. This strengthens the state’s position as the main cruise destination in Mexico and one of the most important worldwide.
In Costa Maya, the arrival of more than 2,802,000 visitors is projected, representing an increase of 9.1 percent compared to the previous year, reflecting the dynamism and diversification of maritime tourism in the south of the state. Meanwhile, in Cozumel, the arrival of over 4,622,000 cruise passengers is projected, with a growth of 0.5 percent compared to 2024.
Regarding port operations, during 2025, the arrival of 1,874 cruise ships is estimated, representing an increase of 3.8 percent compared to the previous year. Cozumel will receive 1,300 vessels, a figure equivalent to a growth of 1.5 percent compared to 2024, while Costa Maya will reach 574 cruises, with a notable increase of 9.3 percent.
This historic growth is strengthened by an unprecedented fact in the cruise industry for both Quintana Roo and Mexico: the implementation of a state fee that includes a contribution of 5 dollars per cruise passenger, which is matched by the State Government. This resource is allocated directly to improving tourism infrastructure, elevating the quality of services, safety, and the experience of both visitors and host communities.
“This achievement is the result of a clear vision that promotes orderly, sustainable, and socially responsible tourism development, focused on generating well-being and shared prosperity for the people of Quintana Roo,” expressed Governor Mara Lezama.
