Quintana Roo Expands Tourist Police Force With Specialized Training Programs

Quintana Roo — The Quintana Roo Public Security Department (SSC) has launched a broad strategy to strengthen the state’s tourist police force, combining permanent academic training with technology and interagency coordination to improve service for residents and visitors.

The division, which fields close to 100 officers, will be professionalized under the plan. Public Security Secretary Julio César Gómez Torres said the work is carried out in direct collaboration with municipal governments, reflecting the strategic weight of the tourism industry in the state’s economy.

Academic Training and a Security Intelligence Master’s

The Universidad de Ciencias y Disciplinas de la Seguridad de Quintana Roo will deliver a specialized diploma course for tourist police officers. The program is designed to give officers theoretical and practical tools to resolve incidents effectively in areas with high volumes of foot traffic.

At the same time, the state institution will launch a Master’s in Intelligence for Security, aimed at strengthening data analysis and the technological capabilities of local security forces.

Coordination With Municipal and Federal Forces

Gómez Torres said reinforcing the specialized division aligns with national public security policy and is backed by coordinated work among municipal forces, the state SSC and federal agencies.

“We are strengthening, among other things, the tourist police in the municipalities, hand in hand with municipal governments,” he said.

The plan also calls for continued delivery of equipment and technical supplies so that officers can maintain a community-policing approach and respond promptly in the state’s tourist destinations.
