Cancún, Quintana Roo — A family from Torreón, Coahuila, is asking civil society groups and Quintana Roo authorities to help locate Jorge Ávalos Roque, a young migrant who has not been heard from since he arrived in Cancún last Friday after being deported from Texas.

The case highlights the vulnerability of deportees who arrive without personal documents, leaving them stranded and unable to collect wire transfers or board public transport. Finding him now depends on residents and local officials joining the search.

Rosa María Roque Cervantes, the young man’s mother, said her son last called her at around 6:30 p.m. that Friday to ask for money to buy a bus ticket home to Coahuila. Because he had no official identification, Ávalos could not collect the remittances or get on the bus.

The last report of his whereabouts places him near the Cancún bus station. He had traveled with another man from Torreón who carried complete documents and managed to return to their home state; it was on that companion’s phone that Ávalos spoke to his family for the last time.

According to the details his mother has gathered, the young man spent that night in downtown Cancún with a group of migrants from San Luis Potosí, and all contact has been lost since then. At the time of his deportation he was wearing black shorts, black sneakers and a tank top.

The family does not have the money to travel to Quintana Roo and search for him in person, so they are asking Cancún residents to report any sightings in parks, plazas near the bus station, hospitals or municipal detention centers.

Anyone with information on the whereabouts of Jorge Ávalos Roque can call the 911 emergency line or contact the Quintana Roo State Search Commission.
