Cancún, Quintana Roo — The state agency that builds Quintana Roo’s school infrastructure expects to complete 67 school canopies this year at a cost of 240 million pesos, its director said.
Moisés Fernando Pérez Cano, head of the Instituto de Infraestructura Física Educativa de Quintana Roo (Ifeqroo), said some of the shade structures are already finished while others remain under construction.
The works bring the state to 360 of the 1,000 canopies promised under the current six-year administration, or 36 percent of the goal. Pérez Cano said priority goes to schools that still lack any kind of roof or cover over their grounds.
Roughly 250 Million Pesos Proposed for 2027
For 2027, Ifeqroo is proposing an investment of about 250 million pesos, though the number of projects will depend on how much funding the state Finance Department makes available, the director said.
Three New High Schools Under Construction
On upper secondary education, Pérez Cano said three Bachilleratos Nacionales Margarita Maza campuses are under construction under an announced investment of 75 million pesos, or 25 million per school.
Under the breakdown he presented, each campus allocates 20.5 million pesos for construction and 3.5 million for equipment and basic furniture, for a total of 24 million per school. Officials did not specify what the remaining million pesos in each announced budget will cover.
The director said the land for the schools is available and that paperwork is underway to donate it to the federal government. The broader project calls for eight high schools: two in Benito Juárez, two in Playa del Carmen, two in Tulum, one in Puerto Morelos and one in Puerto Aventuras.
