Chetumal, Quintana Roo — A woman who left her belongings in her car during a quick shopping trip at a Sam’s Club in Chetumal reported that thieves took two backpacks, a laptop, a tablet and a power tool in roughly 20 minutes.
The woman said she spent between 15 and 20 minutes inside the store and did not immediately notice anything missing when she returned to her vehicle. She discovered the theft later, when she arrived at work and found that two backpacks were gone.
The backpacks held a laptop and a 10th-generation iPad. A blue-and-black Hyundai rotary hammer was also missing from the trunk, she said.
Tracking Signal Lost Before Recovery
Using the iPad’s location feature, the woman traced the device to another part of the city. She went to the area accompanied by authorities, but the signal stopped updating and the equipment could not be recovered.
Officials then advised her to file a formal complaint so investigators can review surveillance camera footage for clues about who took the items. No arrests have been reported in the case.
The woman has circulated descriptions of the devices and offered a reward for information leading to their return. The iPad is silver and carries stickers of a cat and Snoopy; the laptop is also covered in Snoopy stickers.
She also urged other drivers not to leave valuables inside their vehicles, even when they will only be away for a few minutes.
