Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo — The Playa del Carmen council, led by Mayor Estefanía Mercado, approved the creation of the Unit for the Attention of Older Adults, adding a specialized office to the municipal administration to strengthen institutional programs for the elderly.
The agreement was approved unanimously during the council’s 49th Ordinary Session and includes reforms and additions to the Organic Regulations of the Public Administration of the Municipality of Playa del Carmen to formalize the new unit.
The measure, backed and welcomed by every council member, gives the municipal government a dedicated body to address the needs of older adults.
During the same session, the council approved reforms to several sections of Article 35 of the Organic Regulations of the Municipal Public Administration as part of an update to the city government’s administrative structure.
The council also agreed to hold the Seventh Public and Solemn Session, at which Mayor Mercado will deliver her annual report on the state of the municipal public administration for the 2024-2027 period.
