Puerto Morelos, Quintana Roo — Mayor Blanca Merari Tziu Muñoz oversaw a recycling drive and pet vaccination event in Puerto Morelos ahead of International Mother Earth Day, officials announced.
The mayor visited the Reciclatón program at the Zetina Gasca neighborhood dome, where she inspected collected recyclables and urged residents to separate waste at home to help preserve the municipality’s natural environment.
“In the context of International Mother Earth Day, we call for collective awareness: recycling today ensures a better tomorrow for future generations,” she said.
Organizers gave away 120 endemic plants to participants who brought unused materials, encouraging community involvement and green space care.
During the event, officials collected 200 kilograms of PET, 320 kg of metal, 140 kg of glass, 340 kg of cardboard, 80 kg of aluminum, 120 kg of paper, 90 kg of electronics, 80 kg of plastic film, 140 kg of plastic, and 60 kg of copper, totaling 1,570 kg of recyclable waste.
Sergio Chalé, director of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources Management, reported the figures, highlighting strengthened citizen commitment to proper waste management.
A simultaneous rabies vaccination clinic for dogs and cats inoculated 38 pets, according to Galo Macías, head of Animal Welfare, contributing to public health in the municipality.
Aimee Rodríguez Vivas, secretary of Environment, Animal Welfare, and Sustainable Mobility, invited residents to vaccinate their pets at offices on Almendra and Chacá streets in the municipal seat to reinforce disease prevention and animal welfare.
