Cancún, Quintana Roo — An alleged armed attack on municipal police officers sparked a high-speed chase on Federal Highway 307, drawing a large mobilization of security forces from all three levels of government.
According to initial reports, the incident began near the Moon Palace bridge, where a group of individuals traveling in a pickup truck allegedly opened fire on police from the Benito Juárez Public Security and Traffic Department. The suspects then fled southward.
The pursuit extended several kilometers to the Bahía Petempich area, where authorities reportedly intercepted a Honda pickup and detained several occupants believed to be involved in the attack.
The operation involved officers from the Benito Juárez Public Security and Traffic Department, agents from the State Prosecutor’s Office, and federal forces, who set up a broad deployment to prevent the suspects’ escape.
As of now, officials have not released an official report on the number of detainees, possible injuries, or seizures of weapons or other evidence.
Investigations are ongoing to clarify the events and determine the role of those arrested, while authorities are expected to provide official information in the coming hours.
