Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo — Following widespread complaints from residents about the city’s parking meter system, municipal officials and representatives of Promotora de Reordenamiento Urbano (PRU), the company that operates Playaparq, will launch working groups to explore potential improvements.
City Councilor Javier Renán Santos Morales, who heads the Mobility Commission, announced that at least 11 priority issues have been identified for discussion. Among them are the ticket-issuing system, which has recently sparked controversy, and the condition of machines that are malfunctioning or out of service. The availability and location of parking spaces reserved for people with disabilities will also be reviewed.
Santos Morales said a key goal of the talks is to prevent any fare increases and to ensure the company addresses deficiencies repeatedly flagged by the public.
The councilor also noted that the agenda includes the status of parking spots eliminated during the renovation of Avenida 10. The concessionaire has requested the relocation of those spaces within the concession area, a matter that will be analyzed during negotiations.
The working groups will examine both the company’s obligations and urban mobility needs, aiming to reach agreements that benefit residents and improve the operation of the parking meter system.
