Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo — Authorities are investigating the death of a 35-year-old Canadian man found Sunday morning inside a residence in downtown Playa del Carmen.
Municipal police responded to a report of an unconscious person at the property, located near Calle 1 Sur and 20th Avenue in the Aviación neighborhood.
Paramedics examined the man inside the residence and confirmed that he had no vital signs. Police then secured the property while forensic personnel from the Quintana Roo State Prosecutor’s Office processed the scene and collected evidence.
Preliminary examinations reportedly found no visible signs of violence on the body. Authorities have not announced evidence linking the death to a criminal act, although the cause of death has not yet been established.
The body was transferred to the Medical Examiner’s Service for a postmortem examination. Additional testing may be required before investigators can determine how the man died.
His name has not been released, and authorities have not said whether he was visiting Playa del Carmen or living in the city. No information has been provided about who discovered him or when he was last known to be alive.
The investigation remains open pending the forensic findings.
