Playa del Carmen Official Says State Prosecutors Must Handle Armed Men at Puerto Aventuras Ranch

Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo — The secretary general of the Playa del Carmen city government, Luis Herrera Quiam, said he had no information about armed men entering ranches in Puerto Aventuras and argued that the State Prosecutor’s Office will have to step in to address the case.

Herrera Quiam spoke after leading the fourth session of the municipal Public Transport Commission, where he was asked about the incidents in the coastal community north of Playa del Carmen.

Officials received reports that a group of five armed men entered Rancho Paraíso in the early hours of Monday and threatened the property’s security guard, who hid from the intruders.

The secretary general acknowledged that he had no details about the events, but noted that armed men have entered ranches in the municipality’s northwest in the past, apparently with the intention of seizing the properties. In those cases, he said, the State Prosecutor’s Office is the agency responsible for responding.

Second Report Was an Investigative Police Operation

Herrera Quiam also addressed a separate incident reported Monday afternoon in Puerto Aventuras involving armed individuals. He explained that it was a law enforcement proceeding carried out by the Investigative Police.

After the report came in to the 911 emergency number, officers from the Citizen Security department arrived at the scene, and the circumstances of the operation were clarified.
