Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo — A 28-year-old woman who was pregnant with twins died after going into cardiac arrest on a public street in Playa del Carmen’s Colonia Aviación, collapsing in front of her three young children, according to accounts shared among neighbors and relatives.

The woman, identified as Ana and originally from Ocosingo in Chiapas, fell to the ground in the street while her husband was at work, the accounts say. Witnesses to the collapse immediately called emergency services.

When Red Cross paramedics reached the scene, the woman showed no vital signs, according to the information available so far. Preliminary reports also indicated that the two babies she was carrying did not survive.

Authorities have not confirmed the exact date of her death and have not issued an official report on the medical cause of the cardiac arrest. La Revista Peninsular said it had no access to an official medical report confirming the cause of death, and that the details gathered so far come from testimony collected in the area where the incident occurred.

Family Seeks to Repatriate Body to Chiapas

Relatives said Ana was from Ocosingo, Chiapas, and that they want to move her body to that state so she can be buried alongside her family. A lack of money has held up those arrangements.

Neighbors in Colonia Aviación have organized a support network to raise funds to cover funeral and repatriation costs. The three children are in the care of relatives while the situation is resolved.

The case has drawn attention to the precarious position of migrant families in the region, who lack local support networks and sufficient savings and can face additional hardship even in burying their dead.
