Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo — The municipal government, led by Mayor Estefanía Mercado, has launched the “Brigadas de la Transformación” through the Secretariat of Economic Development and Investment Attraction to directly support entrepreneurs and small businesses.
Estefanía Hernández, head of the secretariat, said that over the past two weeks the brigades have visited neighborhoods and key areas including Villas del Sol, Luis Donaldo Colosio, El Petén, La Guadalupana and the Puerto Aventuras borough, engaging with more than 600 business owners. The initiative aims to build a close, participatory government model responsive to the real needs of the population.
In a municipality with more than 10,000 economic units, the “Brigadas de la Transformación” seeks to expand its coverage to establish Playa del Carmen as a benchmark for economic development with social justice, Hernández said.
“Through these visits we inform each business about the programs and services the municipal government offers, with the goal of strengthening their activities and opening new growth opportunities,” she said.
Key supports include free specialized training, commercial promotion and development, connections with suppliers and customers, and access to the “Hecho en Playa” certification.
Hernández emphasized that these actions respond to an economic policy with a social focus, where growth is distributed equitably among those who drive the economy from their communities.
