Playa del Carmen to Host First LGBTTIQA+ Pride Cultural Month in June

Organizers announce the first LGBTTIQA+ Pride Cultural Month in Playa del Carmen, featuring nearly 50 events throughout June.

Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo — Organizers have announced the first LGBTTIQA+ Pride Cultural Month in the municipality, a project they say will mark a turning point for inclusion and visibility of sexual diversity in the city.

The initiative coincides with the Marcha Playa del Carmen 2026 and will run from June 1 to 30, featuring nearly 50 artistic and cultural events open to the general public.

Silvio Hernández Hernández, head of the cultural month’s organization, said the program is designed to be entirely family-friendly, creating spaces for dialogue and learning for parents and young people with questions about sexual diversity.

“The first cultural month will have almost 50 artistic and cultural activities for all of Playa del Carmen, and they will be 100 percent family-oriented,” Hernández said.

Beyond promoting inclusion and respect, the talks and activities aim to help the public understand the meaning of the pride march and the historical causes of the LGBTTIQA+ movement.

“We want fathers, mothers, and young people who have doubts to come to these activities and talks to learn something, so that when I march in the parade, they know why I am marching,” he added.

The announcement adds to the annual Pride March in Playa del Carmen, which has grown in participation and visibility in recent years.
