Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo — A sixth-grade student from a CONAFE (National Council for Educational Development) elementary school in the Los Faisanes neighborhood has advanced as a finalist in the 2026 Knowledge Olympics, school officials announced.
Jesus Perez Narez will compete in the third stage of the competition starting Tuesday in Chetumal, where finalists will defend their project decisions before an evaluation panel. Participants must argue the choices made during their project development, justify their recommendations, and reflect critically on their learning process and its connection to their school and community.
Perez Narez presented a project titled “The Anteater.” Judges evaluated his tutoring cycle, depth of self-study on the topic, ability to tutor another student, and the project’s relevance to community well-being.
“We are very happy that for the third consecutive year, a resident of Los Faisanes stands out in the National Knowledge Olympics,” said Miguel Angel Ramirez Lara, the neighborhood’s legal representative. “Families work hard with their children, not only to teach them universal values but also to support them in their studies.”
The Education Secretariat (SEP) confirmed that for CONAFE students, participation in the first and subsequent stages follows performance criteria based on pedagogical practice and tutoring relationships. At least five students per scholarship slot are guaranteed participation in each stage, in line with substantive equality principles.
Other selected finalists include Victor Emiliano Rivera Nunez, Licely Araceli Alamilla Tuz, Evangely Hernandez Gallardo, Karen Olarte Torres, Betzaida Sarai Zaragoza Pat, and Maria del Rosario Canul Canul.
