Shooting at Playa del Carmen Home Leads to Arrest of Mototaxi Driver

Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo — A gunman fired multiple shots at a house in southern Playa del Carmen on Monday afternoon, prompting a police search that ended with the arrest of a mototaxi driver.

Officers responded to reports of gunfire at the intersection of Avenues 150 and Juárez just after 5 p.m. and found a home that had been struck by several bullets. Witnesses described the shooter as a man wearing a blue shirt, jeans, and black shoes, who fled the scene before police arrived.

Municipal police launched a search in the surrounding area and detained a mototaxi driver in connection with the attack. The State Prosecutor’s Office has not yet detailed the driver’s alleged role, and investigators are also looking into whether other people were involved.

An unconfirmed line of inquiry suggests the homeowner may have been the target and that he is involved in land sales near the Puerto Aventuras town hall. Authorities have not verified that version.

No injuries were reported, and no paramedics were needed. Officers cordoned off the area to preserve evidence, and state investigators processed the scene and collected ballistic evidence for the case file.
