Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo — The municipal government of Playa del Carmen, through the Municipal Institute of Culture and Arts (IMCAP), inaugurated the exhibition “(a) Cortando Bordes” on Saturday at the city’s Art Gallery. The show is free and open to the public.
Ernesto Santiago Martínez Cuéllar, director general of IMCAP, cited surrealist pioneer Max Ernst, who defined collages as “the encounter of two distant realities on a plane alien to both.” Martínez Cuéllar described collage as one of the freest forms of visual artistic expression.
The exhibition will run through June 6. Gallery hours are Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Friday and Saturday from noon to 8 p.m.
Curated by Axis (Esteban Galán), founder of the platform “Eje Central,” the show brings together works by 39 artists from across Mexico. Their creations explore diverse realities and concepts that connect the everyday with the extraordinary. The pieces also form part of the first compilation book of collages in the country.
Visitors can observe experiments with digital light, which the organizers say does not replace paper but enriches the artist’s language with new textures and dimensions.
Participating artists include Aleja Spina, Alejandra Osorio Olave, Alexandra Canto, Artificio Postal, aXis, Brenda Sánchez, Danielle Ivette Aguilar, Emeonse, Erotic hollow, Estibaliz aespiraliz, Francisco Toro, Gissel Batres, Insekto, Ivonne Gutiérrez, Jjjulioofff, Joed Galbe, Jorge “Jorcha” Rodríguez, Latino Maricón, Lorena Malo, Marshiani Medina, Moni McCumber, Natural Values, Patrick Nihil, Santísima Kitsch, Saray Cordero, Srita.
