Cancun, Quintana Roo — Residents of Cancun have expressed outrage after the remains of a dog were found abandoned on a public street next to a preschool, sparking concerns over public health and animal welfare.
The discovery was reported on social media by local residents, who said the remains of a husky weighing between 20 and 30 kilograms were left on Calle 139, adjacent to the Zazil Bee preschool. According to the report, the carcass had been there since Monday.
“I want to report that right next to the Zazil Bee preschool on Calle 139, they have been dumping dead animals. It was a husky weighing about 20 to 30 kilos and apparently it was left there on Monday,” a user posted on social media.
The person who filed the complaint also called for help identifying a blanket found with the remains, suggesting it might belong to a pet funeral service, recalling a recent controversial case in Chetumal.
Not an isolated incident
Neighbors say this is not the first time such an incident has occurred. According to testimony, another dog was abandoned in similar conditions at the same location about a month ago, leading residents to believe there is a pattern that authorities should investigate.
The situation has angered locals, who have called on municipal authorities to remove the remains, investigate who left them, and prevent such actions from recurring.
Call for investigation into pet remains handling
The complaint has also sparked debate about the proper disposal of pet remains and the responsibility of those offering funeral services for animals. Citizens have urged authorities to determine if any irregularities exist and to assign responsibility if necessary.
