Cancún, Quintana Roo — The Benito Juárez municipal government has announced a 100% discount on fines and surcharges linked to Urban Image and Civil Protection regulations, a measure intended to make it easier for businesses to regularize their status and obtain operating licenses.
Mayor Ana Patricia Peralta de la Peña said accumulated penalties in those two areas can become an obstacle for owners trying to bring their establishments into compliance, including small shops and new ventures that are just starting to operate.
She said the program targets businesses such as convenience stores, coffee shops, restaurants, hair salons and stationery shops. “We want to make it easier for them to obtain their operating license,” she said while presenting the measure.
The waiver covers fines and surcharges in both municipal departments. Peralta said the goal is to let taxpayers move forward with their permits without those debts standing in the way of formalizing their economic activity.
Alongside the discount, the mayor announced the opening of a new office called “Atención a tu Negocio” (Attention to Your Business), which will advise and assist applicants throughout the operating license process.
