Only 1 in 10 Gas Stations in Quintana Roo Sell Regular Gasoline at $24 Pesos, Report Finds

Quintana Roo — Just one in 10 gas stations in Quintana Roo is selling regular gasoline at the government’s target price of 24 pesos per liter, according to a new analysis by consultancy PetroIntelligence.

Of the 276 service stations with valid permits in the state, only 10% comply with the voluntary federal agreement for Magna gasoline, while a mere 3% sell diesel at the agreed 27-peso-per-liter price. The figures place Quintana Roo as the state with the lowest compliance nationwide.

Alejandro Montúfar, director general of PetroIntelligence, attributed the poor compliance to infrastructure gaps. “The lowest percentages are in areas farthest away, where there are no terminals or insufficient infrastructure,” he said. Quintana Roo lacks Pemex storage terminals, forcing fuel to be transported from Yucatán, which adds logistics costs.

The statewide average for regular gasoline in Quintana Roo was not specified, but the report highlights that Cancún continues to have some of the highest prices in the country. Earlier this month, the Federal Consumer Protection Agency (Profeco) identified a station in Cancún selling Magna at 25.39 pesos per liter — the highest national price for the fourth consecutive week.

Nationally, 88% of Mexico’s 14,322 operating gas stations comply with the regular gasoline price target, and 83% comply for diesel, the report said. Baja California Sur had the second-lowest compliance, with 31% of stations meeting the regular gasoline price and 13% for diesel.
