Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo — A man was shot dead on a public street near the irregular settlement known as Colonia In House, prompting a large deployment of police and emergency crews across the area.

Neighbors called the 911 emergency line after hearing several gunshots, according to initial reports from the scene. The attack took place at the intersection of Bahía de Tabasco street and Gran Bahía avenue.

Officers from the Public Security Department (SSC) arrived first and found the victim lying face up on the asphalt. He had multiple gunshot wounds, including several serious injuries concentrated around his head.

The officers requested medical support, and paramedics with the Medical Emergency Squadron (ARUM) arrived minutes later. After assessing the man, the responders confirmed he had no vital signs because of the severity of the wounds.

Scene cordoned off as investigators gather evidence

Police sealed off the area with yellow preservation tape and formally notified the State Prosecutor’s Office.

Forensic experts and investigators from the Quintana Roo State Prosecutor’s Office (FGE) later arrived to process the scene. During their fieldwork, they collected several spent shell casings scattered a short distance from the body.

The body was ordered removed and taken to the Forensic Medical Service (SEMEFO), where a legally required autopsy will be performed and where relatives are expected to identify the victim.

Authorities have not reported any arrests in connection with the killing. Security forces from all three levels of government are maintaining a large search and patrol operation at the entrances and exits of the neighborhood in an effort to find those responsible.
