Cancún, Quintana Roo — A man was killed and a woman was injured after gunmen on a motorcycle opened fire on two people inside a home in the Valle Verde neighborhood of Cancún, authorities said.

According to reports, the attackers rode up to the property on a motorcycle and shot at the two people who were inside the house. The home is located near the highway exit toward Mérida, about one kilometer from José López Portillo Avenue.

After hearing the gunfire, neighbors called the 911 emergency line to report a possible armed attack. Officers from the Benito Juárez Municipal Police arrived shortly afterward as first responders and cordoned off the area.

Paramedics who reached the scene confirmed that a man had no vital signs, while a woman was injured. She was treated at the scene and taken to the General Hospital “Jesús Kumate Rodríguez.”

Investigation Underway

Agents from the Quintana Roo State Prosecutor’s Office arrived at the property to open an investigation into the attack. Personnel from the Forensic Medical Service (Semefo) removed the man’s remains and transferred them to the morgue, where a routine autopsy was scheduled to determine the cause of death.

The shooting is the latest in a string of violent incidents reported in Valle Verde over the past several months.

On the night of Sept. 10, emergency services received a report that a man had been attacked with a bladed weapon inside his home, roughly a kilometer from José López Portillo Avenue. Municipal police cordoned off the area and paramedics confirmed that the older man no longer had vital signs. The State Prosecutor’s Office opened a homicide investigation, and Semefo personnel removed the body for an autopsy.

Other attacks in the neighborhood include an Aug. 11 shooting that left three people dead and two injured, the July 20 killing of a man, and a Jan. 5, 2025 attack in which a man and a girl were killed.
