Ninth Annual Classic Car Show Aims to Boost Chetumal Economy

Chetumal, Quintana Roo — Organizers will hold the ninth annual classic car exhibition on May 16 and 17, aiming to give the state capital an economic boost. The event, organized by the group Descubre el Sur and local business owners, will feature more than 50 vintage vehicles.

At a press conference, organizers said they expect at least 100 attendees who will use lodging and dining services in Chetumal, Bacalar, Calderitas, and Xul-Há.

The exhibition kicks off Saturday, May 16, with a parade along Chetumal’s main streets, from Boulevard Bahía to Álvaro Obregón.

Vehicles on display include a 1975 TB, a 1967 Mustang, a 1972 Opel GP, a 1973 Mustang Mach One, a 1972 Volkswagen Kombi, a 1957 Chevrolet, a 1983 Pontiac Catalina, a 1982 Gran Marquis, a 1978 Malibu Raleigh, a 1980 Datsun 280Z, another 1967 Mustang, a 1992 Ram Charger, a Frank Rivera, a 1982 GMC truck, a 1949 Chevrolet pickup, a 1957 Cadillac, and a 1960 Charger.

Also participating: a 1983 Ford Guayin, a 1956 Bel Air, a 1991 Volkswagen Beetle, a handcrafted 1938 Dodge, a 1968 Valiant, a 1965 Tempest, a 1985 Toyota, a 1968 Barracuda, a Ford Meteor Coupe, and a 1990 Volkswagen Sedan, among others.
