Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo — A minor was attacked by a dog in the Galaxia I neighborhood of Playa del Carmen, resulting in bites to both hands and scratches on his stomach. His family transported him to a hospital for medical attention. It remains unknown whether they will file a complaint against the owners of the aggressive dog.
According to information from neighbors, the incident occurred in the Galaxia I neighborhood when a nine-year-old boy was walking on the sidewalk. Suddenly, a dog of the Malix breed appeared in his path and lunged at the minor, causing bites to both hands and scratches on his stomach.
The boy not only suffered injuries from the attack but also experienced significant fright from having the dog on top of him, leaving wounds that may result in scars.
Relatives of the minor reported that the dog’s owners argued that the animal only slept in the street and that they would not take responsibility for the medical treatments. The case was reported to authorities at the time but without receiving a response.
According to neighbors in the area, they complain that the dog remains loose in the street and lunges at pedestrians. They are requesting support from municipal authorities to take measures and prevent it from continuing to attack people.
The dog bit the boy’s left hand, which is severely injured with deep wounds. The right hand also has other bites, and his stomach shows scratches.
The boy’s family is calling on municipal authorities to initiate actions against owners of dogs that roam freely in the streets and endanger the physical integrity of the population.
The incident has concerned residents of the Galaxia I neighborhood and other neighborhoods in Playa del Carmen, such as Leticia Maldonado and Liliana Torres, who are asking authorities to take action to prevent future attacks.
Another neighbor, José Alejandro Loyo, believes the dog’s owners should assume responsibility for the boy’s medical treatments. They should pay not only for the treatments but also for psychological support expenses, addressing not just the injuries but also the emotional damage the minor suffered from being attacked.
Another citizen, Andrés Salas López, commented that there are many dogs in the streets, and it’s unknown whether they are vaccinated or not, representing a danger to citizens. The municipal government should implement a campaign to collect stray dogs to ensure population safety.
